4th Annual Memorial

Remembering moments with Rebecca on this day, June 30th, the day she was born, 24 years ago.

Update: July 3, 2024, added captions to the images I posted on the fly as I drove to the job on the 30th. At the traffic lights, of course 😉

It’s unconditional love…unconditional support. No conditions. No requirements need to be met for the love and support. It’s allowing people to be who they are, allowing them to figure things out for themselves, allowing them to make their own mistakes so they can learn from those mistake and find out what is right for them. We may not remember how it was to begin walking; however, we fell down so many times before we started stumbling along, holding onto whatever we could get a hold of until we were walking steady. And then, we began running.

The Maui Ocean Center was one of the places we’d visit whenever Aunt P visited from Oahu. I loved the underwater tunnel and the sitting area with a view – a view of the underwater action. It was as if we were sitting in-front a ginormous fish bowl with sharks, several types of fish, and other sea creatures. I didn’t get to ask what Becca’s favorite part was. Too busy and frazzled with my overscheduled days that I had been in denial about such overwhelm. Becca is two-and-a-half.
This is not that underwater fish bowl I’ve mentioned. It’s one of the small tide pools.

A go-to spot: CPK, California Pizza Kitchen at the Kahala Mall, east-side. Becca is six-months.

Some of her favorite things: Mickey Mouse ears from Disneyland, squirrel, a halter top I gave her, and embroidered hand-me-down jeans. Becca is five.

Becca spent every other week with me. When I got her from her dad’s this day, we were dressed the same. We both had brown shirts and red striped sport skorts. It was totally random and pretty trippy. Becca is six-and-a-half.

4th Marine Division Memorial Park (a.k.a. Giggle Hill). You can hear children laughing if you go there at night, is what I heard. Hence it’s nickname: Giggle Hill. Son is two. Becca, nine.

Fishing in a large tide pool. Becca is almost ten. Son is two.

Little brother needed a hug. Can’t recall what happened. Son is three. Becca is ten.
